Readers, Intercessors, Oblations and Lay Administrants

Mandate

The role of the Readers is to read appointed passages from the Bible, typically the first and second lessons, at major services.

The role of the Intercessors is to read the intercessions or prayers of the people at major services.

The role of the individuals bringing up the Oblations (the offering of the people in the form of bread and wine) is to carry the oblations from the nave (where the congregation sit) to the altar at the time of the offertory.

The role of the Lay Administrants is to assist with the distribution of communion, usually by administering the wine.

Volunteer Activities

Volunteers in each of these areas take part in the liturgy at the appropriate time and place.

Time Requirement

Volunteers in these areas usually participate in a service approximately once a month or so.

Special Skills Required

An understanding of the liturgy and dependable attendance when on duty are helpful. Readers and Intercessors should also have good reading and speaking skills.
