Primate's
World Relief and Development Fund
Mandate
In 1959, the
General Synod established the Primate's World Relief Fund as a way
of enabling Canadian Anglicans to respond quickly to international
disasters. After 10 years of analysis and reflection on global issues,
the word "development" was added to the name.
The Primate's
World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) is a response by Canadian
Anglicans to the Gospel call to bear witness to God's healing love
in a broken world. Inspired by the vision of a spirit-filled community
of hope, the PWRDF works together with other relief organization
partners to share in the creation of a more just and peaceful world.
The PWRDF engages in development work, responds to emergencies,
works to protect refugees, and educates and advocates for change,
in Canada and overseas. PWRDF is a way for members of the Anglican
Church of Canada to provide support for basic needs and to strengthen
community development leadership internationally.
General Information
PWRDF relies
on individual donations specifically earmarked for its work. These
donations are channeled to the PWRDF through the Cathedral, or they
may be sent directly or given as bequests. The Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA) and several provincial governments provide
matching funds for some PWRDF programs overseas.
Additional information
is available in the "Learning to Walk Together" brochure.
Envelopes are also available for donations.
