The Very Rev. Leighton Lee was appointed Priest-in-Charge of the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer in 2006 and was subsequently appointed Rector in 2009. In February 2016, he was installed as fourteenth Dean of Calgary He previously worked in rural ministry as Assistant Curate in the Highwood Parish which is centred around the town of High River, 60 kilometres south of Calgary.

He was born in Norwalk, Connecticut in 1972 and raised in Calgary. He graduated from the University of Calgary in 1995 with a BA in Art History and the General Theological Seminary in New York City in 2003 with an M. Div. While at General, he was awarded the Bishop of Newark Preaching Prize, given annually for a student sermon judged on the basis of content, delivery, theological consistency and biblical integrity.

As Rector of the Cathedral he is responsible for the overall administration of the Cathedral parish’s liturgical and spiritual life as well as the execution of various diocesan, civic and national events. Since his appointment he has focused on renewing the Cathedral’s ministries of Music, Liturgy, and hospitality.

His interests include the work of Percy Dearmer and the Alcuin Club, the architecture of Ralph Adams Cram, hymnody, opera, French cooking, the City of Boston and the Pipe Organ. From 2006 to 2008 he was President of the Calgary Society of Organists and is currently chair of the Organ Advisory Committee of Mount Royal University. He has served on Diocesan Council since 2007, and the Management Committee since 2009. He was a member of the 2007 Synod Planning Committee and chair of the Nominating Committee for the 2009 Synod.
