Welcome!
Welcome
to the website of the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer. The parish
itself was founded in 1884 and is Calgary's oldest Anglican parish.
The Cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Calgary and
is so called because it contains the bishop's official seat, or
throne which in Latin is called a 'cathedra'. This throne is the
symbol of the bishop's authority as chief pastor and teacher of
the diocese. It is also the home to a vibrant, diverse, and growing
congregation through whose dedication this Cathedral Church serves
as a living reminder of spiritual values in the midst of a busy
downtown core. The parish takes to heart our mandate to be 'A home
for the Spirit in the heart of the City' through worship, outreach
and education.
We
hope this website will help you begin to discover both our beautiful
and historic building and our people. And more than that, we hope
it will inspire you to come and see us in person where a warm welcome
awaits.
The Rev'd Leighton
Lee
Rector
